Interview with Samuel Lara-Avila about Swedish Graphene Forum 2025

Publicerat: 10 september, 2025

Samuel Lara-Avila, Associate Professor at Chalmers and director of 2D-TECH, is heading to Swedish Graphene Forum in Västerås 7-8th of October. We asked him three questions about the upcoming event.

• Why should one attend Swedish Graphene Forum 2025 in Västerås?

– I can think of three good reasons: to get an idea of the latest Swedish inventions and discoveries with graphene and 2D materials, to connect with the broad community of industry and academia working on 2D materials, and to get inspiration for future ideas. All of this, while visiting the charming city of Västerås!

• What is your own main interest in this year’s event?

– The Swedish Graphene Forum is always fun and this year, in addition to learning about the progress of different project, it will be also a nice chance to learn and discuss the roadmap for advanced materials. We have developed a lot of competence and expertise of 2D materials in Sweden, in fact many early discoveries occurred, and still occur, in Swedish universities, so I would like to see graphene and 2D materials helping towards global goals in the future.

• Regarding the 2D Graduate Network, how is that young community coming along?

– The network remains vibrant and dynamic. This year we saw many of the members moving to interesting new ventures, like helping in building quantum computers, working with new gadgets in Facebook, going back to their home countries to start their own research group, or starting their own company here and abroad. At the same time, we have new members from places that were not represented before, like Kalmar in Lund. Some of the new members will the present at the Forum’s talent parade, so that is yet another good reason not to miss the Swedish Graphene Forum 2025, says Samuel Lara-Avila.
